Q and A with Get Fuzzy Creator Darby Conley
----------------------------------------------
How did you come up with your characters?

The characters aren't really based on anyone or anything specific. I don't look like Rob, though he is named after two of my best friends from Knoxville, Tennessee, where I grew up (conveniently, they're both named "Rob"); and Rob's friend Joe is named after a good friend of mine from college. Embarrassingly, if Bucky reflects anyone or anything that I've ever known, it would probably be me... he is the immature, obnoxious voice in my head that I'm continually repressing. I tell myself that we all have that voice, and man, I hope that's true... at least I know that CATS have it...

Is your house full of pets?

I'm ashamed to say it, but I don't actually have any animals at the moment, no... But that's by necessity, not design. I'd have a house full of critters if I could. I grew up with the best dog in the world (other than yours, of course), "Patch," and around a lot of hysterical, shell-shocked cats. Animals are without doubt my favorite people in the world and until I settle down enough to rescue some of my own guyzos from a shelter, I spend time with friends' pets and even strange dogs in the parks around Boston.

Is "Darby" your real name? Is it even a real name at all, or is it short for something else?

Darby is my real name, yes. It's short for "Darbiliscious." It's French-Canadian, I think.
