PARTY IN THE PARK, BRONZE UNVEILINGS AND LINUS LIVE AUCTION TO HONOR SAINT PAUL NATIVE CHARLES M. SCHULZ


Saint Paul, MN - Sunday, September 21, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. - A PARTY IN THE PARK will take place in Landmark Plaza and Rice Park in downtown Saint Paul to commemorate the fourth year of Saint Paul's tribute to Charles M. Schulz and will include a special ceremony to unveil three permanent bronze sculptures of the PEANUTS characters and the Linus Blankets Saint Paul Live Auction at Landmark Center.

The day's schedule of events is:

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The Party In The Park (Landmark Plaza and Rice Park) A family-friendly celebration and includes children's activities, music, food and entertainment. The public is welcome to attend!

12:30 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Dave Koz performance (Landmark Plaza) Dave Koz, Grammy-award nominee and jazz saxophonist will perform during a special guest appearance at 12:30 p.m. and during the opening prelude to the Linus Live Auction.

1:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.

The Bronze Unveilings (Landmark Plaza) A special unveiling ceremony of three permanent bronze sculptures of the PEANUTS characters. The statues will be a lasting legacy to Schulz for everyone to enjoy for years to come.

2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Linus Blankets Saint Paul Live Auction (Landmark Center) 40 statues from the Linus Blankets Saint Paul promotion will be auctioned off in the live auction.

On hand will be Schulz's widow Jean and Schulz's children: Craig Schulz, Amy Johnson, Jill Transki, Monte Schulz and Meredith Hodges to help with the bronze statue unveiling. Also attending will be United Media and Creative Associates representatives, Linus Maurer (the namesake for the Linus character in Charles Schulz's PEANUTS comic strips); Norm Coleman, US Senator (tentatively); Saint Paul Mayor, Randy Kelly; Saint Paul Council President, Dan Bostrom; John Labosky, President, Capital City Partnership; Randi Johnson and Hart Johnson from TivoliToo, Inc. (design and sculpting firm who designed and produced the PEANUTS statues and the bronze sculptures); Brad Toll, Vice President of Tourism, Saint Paul Convention and Visitors Bureau; and, Patrick Seeb, Executive Director, Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation.

LINUS BLANKETS SAINT PAUL was the fourth year of Saint Paul's Tribute to Charles M. Schulz and consisted of 92 statues including Linus Maurer's (the real Linus) 'Stars and Stripes' and renowned artist Tom Everhart's 'Behold, The Wild Card.'

40 of these original Linus statues will be auctioned off by Colonel Kurt Johnson, Kurt Johnson Auctioneering, at the LINUS LIVE AUCTION, held at the Landmark Center with on-site registration beginning at 12 noon and the Live Auction beginning at 2:00 p.m. All statues will be on display in downtown Saint Paul the week prior to the auction.

This year, we are pleased to announce the addition of an exciting online bidding process so PEANUTS fans from all over the world can participate in the auction. Bids are now being accepted on all of the statues to be sold at the live auction. By logging on to www.ilovesaintpaul.com, interested fans can connect to www.bidspotter.com who is hosting the online bidding of the 40 Linus statues included in the live auction. Online bidders can place absentee bids prior to the live auction and also have the opportunity to bid against bidders located at the live auction on September 21 at 2:00 p.m. CST. The exact bidding activity will be posted on the website following the auctioneer's bid and call.

The paddles are available for $100.00, which includes two seats in the auction bidding area, a complimentary Linus fleece blanket to the first 100 registered bidders, and a dessert reception.

The proceeds from the auction are funding the Charles M. Schulz Fund, established to create and maintain permanent bronze sculptures of the PEANUTS gang and funding scholarships for artists and emerging cartoonists at the Art Instruction School where Schulz attended and taught and at the College of Visual Arts.

The Capital City Partnership and the City of Saint Paul in partnership with the Saint Paul Convention and Visitors Bureau, and TivoliToo Design & Sculpting Studios proudly present Saint Paul's tributes to Charles M. Schulz.
