The Trouble with Derek Luann Gets Her First 15,000 Drawings A Very SADD Story Goodbye, Aaron

In doing research for this story, I learned that many girls have their first period without a clue as to what's going on. I can't even imagine how frightening that must be. If these strips helped just one girl in that situation, then it was worth it.

Admittedly, this is pretty sensitive stuff for a comic strip. I assumed two things here: (1) young readers would have no idea what this was all about and (2) anyone who felt offended might get a chuckle at the end and forget to write me an angry letter.

This idea seems so appropriate. I don't know why Hallmark hasn't caught onto this. Actually, my original idea was nixed by the syndicate: I had Brad suggesting that they use a tampon for the candle.
