Four years after these strips, Bernice got a make over that resulted in the look she has today. When I see this early work, I'm amused by the big heads and little bodies. I was influenced by "Peanuts" and it shows.


Here's how Luann looked in '87 before she got her ears pierced. When that happened, in April '89, she incredibly sprouted ears overnight.


I've always been stumped by what to do with large, empty backgrounds. Currently, I use the computer to add shades and patterns. Back in '87, I drew spaghetti hanging from the ceiling.
